Contractor: Balfour Beatty Construction
Project Value: £100,000
Architect: Glancy Nicholls
Stone Type: Sandstone
This is the second of two care centres that PMJ Masonry have completed with Balfour Beatty Construction for Derbyshire County Council. The developments will provide residential and day care activities which promote health and well-being for older people, including those with dementia, as well as community facilities.
The new £8 million accommodation consists of 16 long term and 16 short term en-suite bedrooms with associated dining and lounge areas. The project also includes: a restaurant/café, hair dresser, activity rooms, a full production kitchen, consultancy rooms and treatment facilities etc. The building will offer long-term residential care with short-term intermediate and respite care/rehabilitation within a safe environment. While it was a challenge to work within the existing topography and constraints of the site, it has resulted in a proposal that ensures residents are afforded good views white the day facilities maintain a visual and physical link with the market square.
As with the Meadow View Care Centre in Darley Dale, PMJ Masonry were tasked with the external cladding of the building in Ashlar Sandstone that was sourced locally. Everyone at PMJ Masonry is proud to have contributed to two excellent facilities that will bring help and enjoyment to those who are suffering with dementia.
