Completed in 2015, the £17 million Barnsley Sixth Form provides an inspirational learning environment for high achievers, and promotes pathways from post-16 education to university and higher-level apprenticeships.
Four storeys high, the new Barnsley Sixth Form Centre houses a mixture of classrooms and lecture theatres on the former site of empty shops and a council library, which has been relocated. Aiming for Excellent ratings through environmental initiative BREEAM, Barnsley Sixth Form College features both air source heat pumps and photovoltaic cells.
PMJ Masonry was tasked with the external rainscreen cladding in Spanish Limestone. The building not long after finishing construction, was shortlisted for the ‘Best Educational Project’ and the ‘Best Commercial Project over £1 million’ award at the South Yorkshire and Humberside LABC Building Excellence Awards.
